Artist Types

Emerging Artist

At the early stages of his career, and has caught the attention from regional galleries, media, and critics, but has not yet reached a solid and continuous reputation among them.

Mid-career Artist

Their artworks have gained regional or national recognition through publication, media, critics, and collectors while the work’s value has been confirmed at a few auction sales. This artist has created an independent body of work over several years, including solo exhibitions at galleries located nationally or internationally.

Established Artist

Their artworks have gained international recognition through publication, media, critics, and collectors, while the work’s value has been confirmed at a significant number of auction sales. This artist has created an extensive body of work over several years and has had a huge number of solo exhibitions at galleries, museums and prestigious biennales located nationally or internationally.

Blue-chip Artist

Their artworks are expected to increase in economic value regardless of the general economic conditions.

Artwork Terms

Artist Name:

The name by which the artist is known professionally.

Edition: Set of prints made from a single image of one plate, negative, or mould, and numbered consecutively. For example, a piece marked 20/100 is the 20th print out of 100 prints which were produced. These editions vary in size, and artists often choose to duplicate impressions on different types of paper or colour states.

Medium:

The material/materials an artist utilised in creating a work of art, such as oil paint, acrylic or bronze. The material that a work was created on, such as canvas or wood, is also considered part of the medium. For example, one might say that the medium of an oil painting is “oil on canvas.”

Print Year:

Works of art produced in an edition, such as prints, sculpture, and photography can have a second applicable date. For example, a photograph might have been taken in 1932, but printed or reprinted in 1975 from the original negative.

Size: An item’s height, width, and depth noted in either inches or centimetres.

Title:

The name by which a work of art is formally known.

Year:

The year a work of art was created.
