This limited edition of Peter Curling, Casa di Casanova, is also the first of his works to be available in the stunning new giclée format. Inspired by painting tours of Venice, this piece of art is Peter Curling’s luminous and atmospheric study of the light and colour of the most romantic city in the world and, in particular, of the house of Casanova, perhaps the greatest lover of all time. Giacomo Girolamo Casanova (1725 – 1798) was a churchman, musician, soldier, spy, diplomat and writer but is, of course, best known for his scandalous and highly adventurous love life, which was summarised in the remarkable autobiography published after his death as Histoire de ma vie. Venice, in 1725, was the city of his birth and was also the site of many of his greatest amorous conquests and daring escapades. These included his romantic escape from the notorious ‘Leads’, the prison cells under the lead roof of the Doge’s palace, to which he had been consigned under suspicion of spying and of dabbling in occult practices.
Each print is hand signed by the artist and hand numbered.
