Sidney Maurer’s artworks are inspired by assorted photographs that he has taken or has been given by the photographers and celebrities he loved and believed have made a significant contribution to the betterment of all mankind. His painting of Bob Marley, intitled One Love, is an homage to the famous Jamaican singer-songwriter. Marley became an international musical and cultural icon, blending mostly reggae, ska, and rocksteady in his compositions. Starting out in 1963 with the group the Wailers, he forged a distinctive songwriting and vocal style that would later resonate with audiences worldwide.
Sidney Maurer’s creative eye blends the details from the photo collages to his unique gifted brush which significantly transforms photo collages into the collectible Maurer Masterpieces. He bombards the image with mixed media-crayon, acrylics, watercolour dyes, sumi ink, oils and varnish that moves him in the artistic process to yield a rendering that does justice to the subject.
Sid’s paintings began to appear in galleries across the world and over the past 60 years he’s developed an esteemed catalogue of work that ranges from legends, sport, to music, to culture and Politics. His artworks have become one of the greatest art collectables and are produced in limited editions.
As a painter, Maurer created large mixed media pieces that are very much a product of his varied training and experience. His style combines bold, dynamic colours and strokes with painstaking layouts and typographical elements. The result is the unique blend of a painter’s passion tempered with the calculating compositional eye of a graphic designer. He explores his themes and subject matter primarily through symbols and personalities evoking pride, nostalgia, and hope.
