This stunning work of art by Valentino Monticello, Rigoletto, is produced, in accordance with the artist’s customary technique, using only the labels taken from bottles of fine wine. The opera was written by Verdi in the mid 19th Century. Rigoletto is a hunchbacked jester at the ducal court of Mantua. The opera is inspired by the work of Victor Hugo "Le Roi s'amuse" . At the time of production there was a strong risk of censorship from the Austrian Government.
The opera was commissioned by La Fenice Opera House in Venice. It was set in the 16th Century and a full synopsis of the opera can be found by visiting the websites of various major opera houses throughout the world.
The opera is usually sung in Italian; it is a tragedy ending with Rigoletto's daughter dying in his arms.
