Spencer Hodge was inspired to paint Concealment by a late-evening sighting of a leopard in the Ngorongoro Crater in Tanzania, after a long and dusty day in the open. The artist describes the sighting as "a last gift before dusk and night". The volcanic Ngorongoro crater is the largest unbroken caldera in the world. Covering 260 square kilometers, it provides a microcosm of the scenery and wildlife of East Africa.
Spencer Hodge's painting is a real portrait of the tree; the leopard only comes into focus as a visual afterthought, which is exactly the way it usually works when one has the rare good fortune to spot a camouflaged big cat in the wild.
The print is hand numbered and accompanied by a certificate signed by the Master Printer and bearing a matching number to the print.
