This stunning work of art, Yu-Zuru, is produced, in accordance with the artist’s customary technique of cutting and shaping only the labels taken from bottles of fine wine in order to create the collage. All the wines used here emanate from Japan, so as to add to the atmosphere of the scene. Yu-Zuru, or the Twilight Crane, is a one-act opera by Japanese composer Ikuma Dan.
It is based on the play of the same name by Junji Kinoshita. Ikuma Dan initially wrote incidental music for Kinoshita's play in 1949. Later, determined to transform the music into an opera, he approached Kinoshita who agreed to release the play under the condition that it was set to music word for word. Dan started composing the opera and finished the work a year later in 1951. It premiered in Osaka in 1952.
The print is hand numbered and accompanied by a certificate signed by the Master Printer and bearing a matching number to the print.
