Paul Greenwood's quirky characters are always brighter and larger than life and this unusual work is no exception. Inspired by a scene witnessed by the artist in a local park, Le Dejeuner ironically depicts the glories of France with the total triumph and gallic flourish of the intimidating French baguette over the staid and conventional English cucumber sandwich. Even in matters of style, victory is won in this image by the baguette-eater, who is replete with a virile Dali-esque moustache and full Mediterranean chest hair.
